We have had another great week in 1CC! This week in Science we compared the similarities and differences between animals and humans, in particular an elephant! The children were great at this! They found it hilarious that we both have bum cheeks!
In maths this week we have been focusing on recognising coins and notes and some of the children will be solving money addition problems. Next week in Maths we will focus on measurement and weighing using non-standard units and reading scales.
In Literacy this week we have started our hook with the book ‘The Singing Mermaid.’ The children designed their own mermaid character and then wrote adjectives to describe her. Next week we will be writing our very own mermaid stories! Over the weekend it would be great if you could talk to your child about what they would like to happen in their story. Are there any other characters? What is the problem in the story? How is it resolved? How does the story end?
For the next two weeks we will be working with Mrs Johnston on an ‘Ocean’ themed Literacy and Arts project. You will have received a letter about this yesterday inviting you to the celebration assembly on Friday 12TH February at 1:30pm. Please return slips to say whether you can come and support your child in celebrating their work.
This week’s sound was ‘ow’. Please get the children to practice writing and reading words with this sound at home. Next week’s sound is ‘oo’ as in ‘zoo’.
This week’s star of the week is Florence! This is for a fantastic ‘Stormy Seas’ poem. Well done Florence!
It is our class assembly on Wednesday 3rd February at 9am. Thank you for helping your child learn their lines! It would be great if you could come along and see the children share their learning this half term!
Just a reminder please make sure that children have PE kits in school for a Thursday. Maths homework is due in on a Tuesday; spelling tests are on a Friday. Library books are to be returned on a Tuesday. Topic homework is checked on a Wednesday. Children receive 3 house points for each piece of topic homework!
Please continue to keep reading at home with your children whenever possible; accessing Reading Eggs and Mathletics and practicing spellings, counting and letter formation on the sheets which were sent home in book bags.
Please continue to check out our class blog for updates and pictures of what we have been doing in year 1.The children love to receive comments on what we have been doing! I also put on regular maths, literacy and phonics house point challenges for the children to do.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email me on firstname.lastname@example.org or arrange a time to come and meet with me.
Hope you all have a great weekend.
