Hello,

We have had a great week in 1CC! This week we looked at the geography of a seaside town. We labelled the geographical features of a seaside town and then we had a go at sorting these into human and physical features. The children were fantastic at this!
Yesterday we went back in time and ha a visit from Grace Darling herself! She told us all about her famous rescue; about the RNLI and some of the children also got to dress up and act out the night of the rescue!
In maths this week we have been focusing solving missing number addition problems. The children used practical apparatus and hundred squares to help. Next week we will be solving missing number subtraction problems.

In Literacy this week we have continued to hook with the book ‘The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch’. Yesterday the children sequenced the main events of the story using pictures and they wrote matching captions to describe what was happening at each point. Today as an independent Big Write the children wrote a recount of Mr Grinling’s day. They look super! I can’t wait to read them over the weekend. In Grammar this week we learnt about singular and plural and adding –S to nouns.

From now on in class year 1 will have a ‘sound of the week’. This week’s sound was ‘ee’. Please get the children to practice writing and reading words with this sound at home. Next week’s sound is ‘igh’.

This week’s star of the week is Autumn! This is for trying incredibly hard with her writing. Well done Autumn! J

Just a reminder please make sure that children have PE kits in school for a Thursday. Maths homework is due in on a Tuesday; spelling tests are on a Friday. Library books are to be returned on a Tuesday. Topic homework is checked on a Wednesday. Children receive 3 house points for each piece of topic homework!

Please continue to keep reading at home with your children whenever possible; accessing Reading Eggs and Mathletics and practicing spellings, counting and letter formation on the sheets which were sent home in book bags.

Please continue to check out our class blog for updates and pictures of what we have been doing in year 1.The children love to receive comments on what we have been doing! I also put on regular maths, literacy and phonics house point challenges for the children to do.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email me on claire.cooke@allertonceprimary.com or arrange a time to come and meet with me.

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend. I have my fingers crossed for some snow to play in!

Miss Cooke
