We have had a busy week in Year 1CC! This week we have been doing lots of end of term assessments with the children which they have all tried incredibly hard in!

In maths this week we have been focusing upon multiplication using pictorial representations and objects to solve by grouping and repeated addition. Next week we will be learning about division by sharing.

In Literacy this week we have hooked with the short animation ‘Baboon on the moon.’ The children loved the story! Yesterday the children wrote thought bubbles to show how Baboon was feeling and today they wrote postcards as Baboon to a family member or friend on Earth. These were fantastic!

This week we have started thinking about verbs. The children have started to understand that a verb is a ‘doing’ word. We will continue with this next week.
This week’s star of the week is Michael! This is for a fantastic eye witness account as Toby during the Great Fire of London. Well done Michael! 

This week we have got really into practising our Christmas production. Just to let parents know, as part of the KS1 performance year 1 do not have speaking roles as they form the choir. A letter has gone home tonight asking if children can come dressed as a character from the Christmas story. This could be an animal such as a cow, pig, horse or donkey or perhaps an angel, star, inn keeper or a shepherd. Please send costumes into school by next Friday in a clearly labelled bag.

Please make sure your child has their PE kit in school all week. PE is usually on a Thursday afternoon, unless there are changes to timetables. Maths home work is due in on a Tuesday and topic homework looked at on a Wednesday. Spelling tests are on a Friday. Reading books are changed on a Tuesday. Our library session is on a Tuesday so please return library books back to school on a Tuesday morning.

Please continue to keep reading at home with your children whenever possible; accessing Reading Eggs and Mathletics and practicing spellings, counting and letter formation on the sheets which were sent home in book bags.

Please continue to check out our class blog for updates and pictures of what we have been doing in year 1.The children love to receive comments on what we have been doing!

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email me on claire.cooke@allertonceprimary.com or arrange a time to come and meet with me.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Miss Cooke
