We have had a great short week in year 1 and thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Harewwod House Estate on Tuesday. A Huge thank you to those parents who joined us, it is always greatly appreciated! Following the trip the children wrote some fantastic persuasive ‘For Sale’ advertisements for Harewood House. These included some fantastic descriptive vocabulary.
This week in maths we have been focusing on data handling using tally charts and recording our data in bar charts. Next week in maths we will be focusing upon multiplication using practical methods and the written method of repeated addition.
In Literacy this week we have started to hook with the book ‘A room on a broom’ by Julia Donaldson. On Thursday we read to a specific point in the story, the children then predicted the end of the story and created pieces of drama in small groups to show their endings. Today the children created story boards to retell the main events of the story. Again some superb writing with great use of connectives and time openers! Next week we will be continue to hook with this book, looking in more detail at characters and the settings within the story.
This week’s Star of the week is Susan. This is for her fantastic writing. She wrote a superb letter to Mrs Stott and a wonderful descriptive advert for Harewood House.
Please continue to keep reading at home with your children whenever possible; accessing Reading Eggs and Mathletics and practicing spellings and words in preparation for the Year 1 phonics screening test.
PE this term has now moved to a Tuesday, so please ensure children have PE kits in school.
I hope you have a lovely weekend!
