We have had a good week in year 1 and we are now really getting into our new topics. It was great to see so much good quality topic homework on Wednesday!
This week in History we have been looking at the exterior features of modern homes. Next week following our visit to Harewood House we will be comparing these features with homes from the past.
This week in maths we have been focusing on finding doubles of 1 and 2 digit numbers using both practical and written methods. Some children had a go at finding doubles of 3 digit numbers by partitioning! This week’s star of the week is Ophelia for her fantastic doubling of 1 and 2 digit numbers using cubes to help her solve. Next week in maths we will be focusing upon data handling and rotation using the language of a whole, half, quarter turn.
In Literacy this week we received an email from Mrs Stott asking Year 1 to look at the reasons for and against having a school pond. Today the children wrote some super persuasive letters to Mrs Stott expressing their opinion whether we should or shouldn’t get a school pond. The children came up with some great arguments on both sides, but as a class we decided we would like a school pond… we are yet to hear what Mrs Stott has decided to do!
On Tuesday we will be going on our trip to Harewood House. Children are to bring a packed lunch and water bottle (unless indicated on the slip returned to school), wear school uniform and bring suitable coats and footwear.
Please continue to keep reading at home with your children whenever possible; accessing Reading Eggs and Mathletics and practicing spellings and words in preparation for the Year 1 phonics screening test.
PE this term has now moved to a Tuesday, so please ensure children have PE kits in school.
I hope you have a great extended weekend!
