We have had another super week in Year 1. As part of our topic we went around school looking for animals in their natural habitats. We found birds, cats, spiders, slugs, wood louse, ants and many more. In art we then used clay to make our very own 3D animals… Apologies for clay on clothes.. we did use aprons although I think I came off worse!
In Literacy this week we started leaning about singular and plural nouns. The children were great at identifying singular and plural and came up with some of their own! Today in Literacy we wrote some super non chronological reports about an animal of our choice. These were jam packed with facts about the animal’s appearance, diet and habitat. The children have clearly really enjoyed our ‘Animal Kingdom’ topic.
This week the children were given a termly maths assessment. I was so impressed with how hard the children worked ad their attitudes towards this assessment. The children loved it when I gave them their score from the Autumn term and their new score. They loved seeing the progress they had made! Towards the end of this week we have started focusing on finding halves of numbers. We will continue next week finding fractions of numbers.
Today we had our KS1 half termly Gold Book Assembly. This half terms Gold Book stars were; Giselle – for fantastic effort in her writing. Jaiden – For super effort in his writing and achieving his writing target and Sophia for making super progress in her reading.
Next Wednesday is parents evening. Please book through the school website on the online appointment system. Thank you to all those parents who came to this Thursdays parents evening. Please continue to check out our class blog via the website. This is regularly updated with pictures and you can get a real glimpse into what your children have been doing in year 1. The children would also love it if we received comments on our blog about their learning. Thank you to all those parents who have been accessing the blog and leaving comments!
Please continue to keep reading at home with your children whenever possible; accessing Reading Eggs and Mathletics and practicing spellings. Please also make sure children bring book bags every day; PE kits MUST be in school on a Monday; spelling test is on a Thursday.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Miss Cooke
